Kuopion Sähköverkko took decisive action to renew its metering devices and services in response to future needs and changes in the Electricity Market Act. For the next generation of smart metering devices and services, the aim was to make long-term sustainable decisions. To support this, strong partnerships and top experts were selected.

Sustainable and Evolving Solutions for Future Needs

Kuopion Sähköverkko tendered the metering devices and services for the electricity network in a joint procurement with eight other urban network companies. This broad collaboration provided a solid foundation for the project and enabled precise clarification of requirements. The project was also scheduled to follow initial experiences from previous metering service initiatives in the industry. The procurement by Kuopion Sähköverkko included metering devices, MaaS metering services, data transmission services, mass installations, and related project management.

Conditions for a Successful Project Execution with Solteq Utilities Consulting

A strong project start was particularly important in this case, as the project was laying the groundwork for one of the network company's most critical processes. The planning and definition phase of the total service implementation needed to be completed within an intensive three-month period. At the same time, plans for the future phases of the project had to be established. With other ongoing projects and tasks, Kuopion Sähköverkko decided to bring in an external expert to assist in this critical phase. Solteq Utilities Consulting was selected due to its proven AMR 2.0 expertise in previous projects. This enabled Solteq’s experts to jump into the already-moving train and participate directly in project meetings and progress discussions.

Effective Planning and Definition of the Meter Reading and Measurement Service Project in Collaboration

The planning phase was approached collaboratively, focusing on refining the project plan and building shared understanding of requirements using business process descriptions. Creating context for the requirements was key, so that the supplier side could see how each requirement related to company operations and how it would be verified. This approach allowed the list of new functionalities and integrations to be transformed into a comprehensible whole.

Due to the tight schedule, timing was emphasized when planning the project tasks. With Solteq’s experts, a shared understanding of the project scope and content for all parties was established, ensuring progress according to the plan. By documenting and systematically tracking open issues, the project team could focus on the timely progress of essential matters.

“It is important to us that we provide high-quality services to our customers.
