Today’s megatrends in data storage were the main topics of the storage-themed cruise on October 31. Companies in all fields are struggling with a radical increase in the amount of stored data. Speakers discussed how increasing amounts of data and data classification can be tackled with software-defined storage solutions.
The conference was opened by Pekko Päivärinta, who focused on intelligent software-defined storage solutions that enable companies to make efficient use of their physical storage capacity. Päivärinta presented a range of virtualized storage solutions and the services built around them. If companies want continuity for storage and back-up solutions, instead of increasing physical storage space, they should invest in intelligent storage technology that facilitates continuous change.
The sharp increase in stored data requires proper tools that systems can use to independently classify large amounts of data, thus making it much easier to manage stored data. Our own Petri Fagerström emphasized that different storage surfaces should be used wherever they are at their best. This creates savings and, in the long run, competitive advantages.
Kari Alhonen, also from Descom, discussed the role of productization for service providers. According to Alhonen, a well-productized service often encourages one-time customers to become subscribers of continuing support and maintenance services. Kari also described our range of services and talked about how storage solutions work as a platform for our cloud and overall services. Software-defined storage is the solution for increasing amounts of data.
