The Digital Leaders in Finland 2013 study carried out by consulting company Magenta Advisory compared the success of Finnish companies in different digital dimensions. One section of the research compared Finland’s most developed online stores. The study focused on the companies’ ability to sell through electronic channels from the viewpoints of product presentation, functionality of the buying process, and sales support.
According to the study, Finland’s most developed online stores are Prisma, Verkkokauppa.com and Sokos. Of the top three, both Prisma and Sokos are our customers.
Best customer experience
The study focused on the customer experience as a whole, and did not separately examine factors such as technologies.
“The differences between the top three were very subtle. One of the main reasons why the S-Group online stores (Prisma and Sokos) were so successful is how smoothly the different parts of the online stores work together. The technology supports both customer service and the buying process. This creates the best customer experience. Everything works so smoothly that customers are only aware of the transaction, not the technology or the process,” says Esa Viitala, our project manager for the construction of Prisma’s online store.
The most successful fields of business were retail trade, betting, and insurance. The common denominators of the best online stores were ease of use and clear messages that guide the customers.
“Well, there’s still room for improvement next year. Our goal is for our customers to achieve a triple victory in next year’s study,” Esa envisions.
